A hoaxumentary is an ostensible documentary that, as a hoax against viewers, presents fiction material as being, or possibly being, non-fictional. Note that a hoaxumentary may actually be comprised primarily of non-fiction material.
A hoaxumentary differs from a mockumentary in that the latter doesn't seek to deceive viewers into believing that fiction material in it is, or may be, non-fictional. A mockumentary is a "pseudo-documentary" in the sense of imitating a documentary, but not in the sense of falsely purporting to be a documentary.
Here are a few examples of hoaxumentaries:
John Alan Schwartz's Faces of Death series;
Tom McGough's ALIEN AUTOPSY: (FACT OR FICTION?), featuring the special effects of John Humphreys;
Costa Botes and Peter Jackson's FORGOTTEN SILVER, starring Thomas Robins as the fictional character Colin McKenzie; and
J.T. Petty's S&MAN, starring Erik Marcisak as the fictional character Eric Rost (a.k.a. Erik Rost).
